Work Details

Instrumentation: SSA (children's) choir, percussion (3 players), strings (violins I & II, violoncellos, double bass) (instrumentation varies between the 4 Songs).
Difficulty: Advanced
Dedication note: The work is dedicated to the principle of reconciliation.
Commission note: Commissioned by Sydney Children's Choir for performance by Gondwana Voices with funds provided by Australia Council.
The textual ideas were developed in collaboration with Rosalind McGrath for songs One and Two, whereas Three is an adaptation of lines from 'The Opal', a poem written by William Porter-Young. The fourth song is a collage of mnemonic sounds ... and Indian pitch sounds.
