Le Regine : per violino, gambus e gamelan / Katia Tiutiunnik.
Library shelf no. 785.5819/TIU 3 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Le Regine (Italian for "The Queens") was composed in honour of mother cats (often referred to as "queens" by cat breeders and veterinarians) and is dedicated to Associate Professor Shahanum Mohd Shah, the director of our UiTM International Gamelan Festival and Dr. Nathan Fischer, who performed the gambus part in the work's world premiere. Like Festival des Roses, Le Regine also comprises a set of continuous variations. However, unlike the former work, Le Regine fuses melodies solely in the hijāz maqām with the harmonically ambiguous B Flat Major Pentatonic melodies and harmonies of the gamelan parts.
