Work Overview

The symbolic dimension of Cities of the Gods is inspired by the premise that mythology is not imaginary, but rather the repository of ancient memories; and that ancient civilizations - much older, greater and more technologically advanced than assumed - were the product of knowledge brought to the Earth by extra-terrestrials. In the Bible, these extra-terrestrials are referred to in the as the Nefilim (Hebrew for "those who descended from above") and in Mesopotamian mythology they are known as the Anunnaki, whose leaders included the gods of the Sumerian/Babylonian pantheon.

The creative process resulting in Cities of the Gods included a substantial extra musical research component, which involved the careful reading of pertinent texts by various Near Eastern Scholars, including Zechariah Sitchin (one of the few scholars able to read and understand Sumerian, Akkadian and Assyrian cuneiform), whose ground breaking book, The Twelfth Planet, proved to be the most powerful source of extra-musical inspiration for Cities…I am also indebted to Harvard psychiatrist and acclaimed writer, Dr John Mack, whose outstanding analyses/explorations of human encounters with non-human intelligence, documented in Abduction: Human Encounters with Aliens (1994), exerted a significant influence on my creative process.
