I am the bread of life / Keren Terpstra.
Library shelf no. 782.55525/TER 7 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
I am the bread of life is one of three motets commissioned by the Reverend Matthew Williams for St James' Old Cathedral Voices, as part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations for the laying of the church foundation stone. It uses a constant ostinato throughout, a reassurance and insistance: "ego eimi" ("I am"), one of the seven instances in the Gospel of John where Jesus makes a claim "I am" (also a claim to divinity - hence the last two chords of the piece).
It is suitable for many different occasions, notably communion services.
