Work Overview
We often look to the red centre or the tropical north to define
Australia, and place ourselves within a certain romance with a
country half of us have never seen. In contrast in this piece I'm
looking at a micro-world, perhaps a few square inches under a
mushroom, and seeing that a whole world exists there. I was
inspired by my mother-in-law Isobel Robin's haiku poem:
"Rain falls and after, a sudden air of mushrooms, and small
things moving." (Used by permission).
So I hopefully catch images of rain, heavy and light, and also
short bursts of small things unfurling, and lots of delicate
movements in the soil and leaf litter.
It may be worthwhile reading the poem (as it is very short)
before a performance.
