Work Overview
A work of regionalist expression. The presiding effect in the piece is the heterophony that occurs in both the Liturgy and in the hymns of the Mass. I used to ask my mother 'why is everyone not speaking or singing together'. It was the mass of people and the Church space, and I grew to love the sound of it and still do. This heterophony is emulated in the guitar mainly, but also in the recorder part. Also aspects of the recorder part suggest the passionate voice of our elder Irish Priest from the 1960s and 1970s. It is shaped the way he shaped his phrases. It's all very local for me.
