Work Overview
This work was composed during my student years at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music. The antecedent for the solo flute of Robert Murray in 1998, and the consequent for the clarinet of my good friend, Derek Grice, in 1999. The original was designed to be a pair of pieces, linked by thematic ideas, but essentially two independent works.
In this revised version of 2016, I have retained the possibility of separate performance - the pieces work quite effectively as independent compositions, however it is now possible to play them as a complete work, with the end of the antecedent overlapping the start of the consequent.
This revised version is dedicated to the clarinetist Jože Kotar as thanks for the wonderful premiere he gave of my Songs for clarinet and piano in March, 2016.
