Work Overview
On the Brink was first imagined as a piece for the unusual combination of three clarinets and saxophone but was later transformed into a piece for flute quartet.
Heavily influenced by comtemporary film scores, On the Brink depicts the chaos in one's mind when faced with difficult choices. Beginning slowly, the piece gains momentum through different rhythms exchanged between the instruments like thoughts bouncing from topic to topic. At times it could be imagined that each instrument represents a different thought, all competing for space in a crowded mind.
