Work Overview
Santiago is based on a piece written in 2006 for the Victorian Suzuki Guitar Festival titled 'Magpie Rumba'. This work was commissioned by Zeah Riordan for an ensemble of Suzuki guitar students of a variety of ages and levels. A couple of years later the piece was updated to make it suitable for medium to advanced level players, with a new title, Santiago. The rhythm is based on a standard rumba rhythm and the guitar percussion section borrows some effects from Brazilian music.
