Work Overview

This work was commissioned by Clarity Clarinet Quartet as part of a series of works from several Canberra composers. Two things greatly influenced the shape this work took: the first was the Brindabella mountains that surround Canberra that seemed to have an very strong presence for me at the time of writing - I love the sound of the word and the mountains themselves as they cradle the south part of Canberra are really beautiful. The second influence was a very persistent playful jazz motive that insinuated itself into the work despite - at first - my best efforts to keep it at bay. Finally I surrendered and this work is the result.
