Work Overview

The piece Evocations for solo cello is structured from nine musical ideas that are subjected to a number of transformations during the process of composition. The title Evocations (act of calling up or evoking something or someone) has for me certain ritualistic connotations and suggests therefore repetition of some kind - in this case a repetition of such musical ideas. When repeated, these ideas may appear in different juxtapositions to each other, yet they usually complement each other forming thus larger melodic shapes. Nine musical ideas are distinguishable from one another by different rhythmic and/or intervallic structures and by articulation.
