Work Overview

Faraway Castle grew from a short fairytale theme, written for a German/Australian theatre production 'Einst zu einer Zeit' in Erlangen, Germany. Originally written for harpsichord and violin, the music emulates the story of a boy's life journey in search of a castle on a distant mountain. As a young boy, he leaves home in search of the castle on the horizon and seemingly never getting closer. The music is the journey of his adventures until he reaches old age... initially walking, days pass on, then as he gets closer, running, feeling excited to reach his dream of the grandiose castle... he finally tires and sleeps, perhaps in realisation that he'll never quite get there... Scored for solo piano (available on 'Invisible Wilderness Vol I' and arranged for piano & string quartet (Never Stops to Wait and Eavesdropping: Live at St Stephen's).
