Work Overview

Midsummer Night's Music was written in 2014 for clarinettist Paul Meyer and the Sydney Omega Ensemble. It was premiered at Sydney's Goverment House in May of that year and performed the following week at 5 regional centres in New South Wales. It has also been performed by Lawrence Dobell, Tobias Breider and Andrew Basile as part of "Classics in Picton" NSW in October 2014.

This piece was inspired by a hot evening in New York City in the summer of 1998 while the composer was studying there. The balmy night with its tapestry of lights and sounds would have provided a perfect backdrop for an urban setting of Shakespeare's play.
