Tessellations : overture for youth orchestra / Mark Grandison.
Library shelf no. Q 784.44/GRA 4 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Composed for youth orchestra, this composition's chief challenge is rhythmic, with much syncopation in its predominant 4/4 metre and the occasional additive-metrical hiccup. This has been balanced however with a relatively straightforward harmonic language. Tonally the work employs modes based on the tonal centre of C but is largely devoid of chromaticisms within each key area. Harmonically the work is pandiatonic in its free combination of pitches from the prevailing mode.
