Product details
"The material world is but a shadow of the spiritual……Living in shadows, we look in ignorance upon the world, through the glass darkly of the conscious mind and physical senses." (Dan Campbell)
The "light source" for this piece is the solo violin and the other instruments exist as its shadows. This concept is realised in the first section by the elongation and delay of the solo violin's melody in the lines of the other instruments. The clarinet is the first instrument to rebel against such a confining structure: initially injecting foreign materials into its required melodic line and eventually breaking free. In doing so, it begins a rebellion throughout the small orchestra that reaches riot status. Meanwhile the solo violin proceeds to reveal its melodic material in greater detail. The other instruments return with mocking gesture until the solo violin commences a bold and persuasive speech.
