Sheet Music: ScoreVariations and Fugue on a Theme by Scriabin : for piano duet / Colin Spiers.by Colin Spiers (1982)
|
Product details
Comprising 15 variations and a fugue based on the prelude Op. 16 No.4 by Scriabin, this work falls within the standard genre of variation form. The inclusion of a fugue near the end also places it within the tradition of such works that use this 'learned' form as a means to create a sense of musical climax (a good example being Brahms's "Handel Variations"). The variations themselves explore a wide range of piano writing for the two performers in a medium that found its greatest exponent in Schubert. Here, the intention is to explore the limits of technical proficiency dictated by the movement constraints created by the placement of two players at a single instrument.
