Sheet Music: ScoreSpin dance : for chamber orchestra / Paul Stanhope.by Paul Stanhope (2005)
|
Product details
Spin Dance is a spiky-textured and fast-paced movement for chamber orchestra. On a surface level, the title refers simply to the whirling, repeated figures heard in the woodwinds and later the strings in the opening musical statement. However other connotations of the word "spin" suggest themselves: namely the idea of "spinning a yarn" (telling a tall story) which is also related to the all-too-common art of political "spin". In this sense Spin Dance is an ironic tribute to politicians of all persuasions who are able to dance around the plain truth through their crafty and rather suspect art of "spin doctoring".
