Snapshots was commissioned by The Southern Cross Soloists to reflect on Snapshots, a poem from a cycle of twenty-three poems titled Smoke Encrypted Whispers by Brisbane based writer Samuel Wagan Watson. The brief was to write a one hundred second interlude between the poem Snapshots and the concluding poem Aunty Grey Smoke. Snapshots was part of a collective work presented in the MUSIC AND WORDS series programmed and performed by the Southern Cross Soloists with readings of the poems by the poet. Twenty-three Brisbane composers were commissioned to write interludes between each of the twenty-three poems.
