Product details

In Singing in Tune with Nature the singers are asked to glide between a pair of vowels to produce changing overtones on each note. This piece is written for a standard choir where the singers do not need to have any previous overtone singing experience. The layering of indeterminate overtones combine to create an ephemeral texture.

The composer notes:
This piece aims to draw attention the beauty and possibilities of singing overtones that are natural to the human voice. Using just intonation tuning, each sung interval comes from the harmonic series rather than the twelve notes found on the piano. The singing techniques and microtonal tuning used are a metaphor for appreciating and focusing in our natural environment.

The composer notes the following styles, genres, influences, etc associated with this work;
Microtonal singing in just intonation. Ambient and meditative. Influences include throat singing, overtone singing, French spectral music, La monte Young, Harry Partch and Stockhausen.
