Product details

L'arte di essere or 'The Art of Being' was especially composed for Korean/Australian flautist Katie Kim and Australian cellist Miranda Brockman (Melbourne, Australia), and is dedicated to Gordon McKern OAM (1921-2021) - inaugural Chairman of the Aspire Cultural and Charitable Foundation (Bendigo, Australia). L'arte di essere attempts to portray a musical interpretation of 'contentment' characterized by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's (1844-1900) concept of 'love of fate' (or contentment, defined as "a sustained inner peace regardless of circumstance") expounded via his statement: "My formula for greatness in a human being is amor fati: that one wants nothing to be different, not forward, not backward, not in all eternity." In The Philosophy of Contentment (2016) blogger Elizabeth Azide explains that "unlike happiness, contentment is a word we can succinctly and singularly define. It's essential that we draw this distinction between contentment and happiness, as happiness, by nature of its ambiguity, comes in waves, only recognizable once it's passed. Contentment is something we can immediately identify. You know right now whether or not you're content."
