Product details

Art and Life is a song cycle which traces the life of a woman in her early adulthood. She meets an Artist, sits for him, and they fall in love. The first song describes the sitting. They have a child; she sings a lullaby to the sleeping baby. By the third song, the woman's relationship with the Artist, the father of her child, has soured; he abuses her. In the following song, her militancy (the survival instinct mentioned in the first poem) burgeons; her "resourcefulness", explored in the third, has found a new level - and in the fifth song she has been imprisoned for her "commendable bravery". In the last, in her incarceration, she sings a distant lullaby to her child.
