Sheet Music: ScoreChaconne : for wind orchestra / Simon Reade.by Simon Reade (2007)

Product details
This work, as the title suggests is in the form of a chaconne. I wanted to convey in this work a sense of motion, undermined by the static nature of the basic material. The piece begins with a bleak chordal theme stated by the trombones and percussion, and develops through repetition and variation across five distinct variations. My intention was to draw the listener on an increasingly frantic ride through the piece, before suddenly returning to the theme alone, starkly unaltered and unresolved - as if the piece had never occurred.
The band version of Chaconne was revised as part of the composition of Variations, an extended work for wind band based on Chaconne. This separate version was completed in 2007 for a recording project funded by Arts Tasmania of my own compositions and arrangements for Wind Band. It was composed for and is dedicated to the Hobart Wind Symphony.
