Product details
This piece presents the two instruments in different positions and relationships towards each other. The opening theme is characterized by the flute and bassoon playing in contrary motion. A secondary melody is first heard in the flute part accompanied by the bassoon; the roles of the two instruments are then reversed. A short solo for flute alone leads to a resumption of the main themes.
The premiere of Celtic Runes took place under the aegis of the Australian Academy of Science 28 May 2013. It was part of the first music recital to take place at the Academy, witnessing a symbolic handshake between music and science in Australia. It was presented by Professor Suzanne Cory AC President of the Academy.
Celtic Runes carries with it a suggestion of the journey into the unknown, which is, as Professor Cory remarked, one of the most exciting things scientific research has to offer.
