Product details

The work is inspired by, and is an interpretation of, the most famous of all Japanese haikus, "The Frog" by 17th century Zen master, Matsuo Basho:

"Breaking the silence/of an ancient pond/ a frog jumped into water - a deep resonance".

The First Movement begins with a quiet meditation (Zazen), followed by the 'frog jumping' theme, quick and mischievous. The Second Movement is elegiac and traquil; the Third Movement is full of riotous energy. Great virtuosity and sensitivity are called for from the soloist.
