Assay for a Lone Hand was written at the invitation from international concert pianist Coady Green, who suffered a dire hand injury in September 2022, necessitating six hours of emergency micro-surgery.
Coady was told by his medical team at the time of the injury that he was unlikely ever to regain full use of his hand. His remarkable recovery is described by his treating surgeon as "nothing short of a medical miracle."
That Coady is back on the performing circuit and in the recording studio a mere four months later, at full pianistic capacity again, is testament to his grit and determination, and this piece seeks to reflect the journey he underwent on his rehabilitation.
