Product details

"A Bluesy Kind of Thing" reflects my lifelong passion and involvement with Jazz and the Blues in all its forms. The opening theme is brooding but should not be doleful or mournful while the accompaniment is a slow steady walk, but not a funeral march. The middle section is more intense reminiscent of a '60s detective movie score before the return of the main theme and a slow fade.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 facsimile score 3p. -- A4 (portrait)) and 1 part (2p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Medium — Equivalent to Grade V - VI AMEB

Duration: 4 mins

Dedication note: dedicated to the Oke family

This is influenced by some the extended works of Duke Ellington (e.g. Black Brown & Beige) also the work of Kurt Weill in his years of collaboration with Bertolt Brecht.

May also be performed on Cornet or Flugelhorn. In the latter version it may be transposed down a whole-tone or a minor third. This transposition may also be useful for a younger trumpet student who is not yet confident playing above the stave. It may also be played wholly or in part using a mute (type at discretion of the performer).

This edition produced 2011.
