Event Details
In July 2014, a host of heavenly harpists will descend on Sydney, Australia, for a week long festival celebrating the most magical instrument, the harp. The World Harp Congress, an international triennial event, is coming to the Southern hemisphere for the first time in its 36-year history, attracting delegates and performers from all continents and cultures.
The harp is one of the most ancient instruments, with a history stretching back to 3,500 BCE in Mesopotamia. From the African kora to the Japanese koto, the Irish clàrsach to the modern orchestral harp, it’s an instrument that finds a home in many cultures and styles.
Our gala opening program celebrates the world of harp.
