Event Details
Tripataka are performing new original compositions and improvisations in this one-set concert in the Lebowski's series.
This performance will be the premiere performance of the full version of one of Adrian Sherriff's newest major pieces Cyclogenesis. The piece paints the story of a journey through a cyclone, from turbulent opening winds and modulating strong cross currents to the gentle breezes of the eye and back through the harsh winds again. 10 minutes of continuously developing/modulating, polyrhythmic and polyharmonic material, 6 parts over 7 parts, in non-retrogradable arch form. The second half is improvised on the same materials as the opening in retrograde.
Jonathan Dimond's Coranderrk is dedicated to William Barak, who was the last traditional elder of the Wurundjeri clan. Coranderrk explores the principle of mathematical tiling in rhythm, over a recurring 105-beat cycle. The bass trombone and bass guitar interplay with a 10-part tessellation performed by the drum set, with figurations inspired by South Indian korvai and other geometric shapes.
