Event Details

Persian-Jazz Quintet, the ARIA-nominated EISHAN ENSEMBLE come to The Nimbin School of Arts on Thursday March 31st in Nimbin, with support performance by Orkeztar Lismoré.

The Eishan Ensemble is led by internationally acclaimed Persian-Australian composer, Hamed Sadeghi – a music specialist with an Iranian classical musical background, who plays Tar, Setar and Oud. The Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical traditions from both East and West, to create a musically rich and diverse niche genre of “Persian-Chamber Jazz” or “Middle-Eastern-Jazz Fusion”.

This is upbeat, rhythmic music that melds world genres effortlessly together, with sophisticated and spontaneous ethnic-beats, jazz-grooves, creating opulent sonic soundscapes. Sadeghi’s psychedelic virtuosity is joined by the individual talents of Pedram Layegh on guitar, Michael Avgenicos on saxophone, Maximillian Alduca on double bass and Adem Yilmaz on percussion.

The Quintet’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions with diverse, expert and edge of your seat melodic explorations and improvisations.

The Eishan Ensemble have performed internationally in Iran, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Taiwan and Australia. Their second album, ‘Afternoon Tea at Six’ has garnered much enthusiastic acclaim.

Supporting them for these shows will be the Northern Rivers most colourful community ensemble, Orkeztar Lismoré. Bandleader Pietro Fine, who “plays the clarinet like a lightening rod” sets the pace for this high energy world music as played by a 20 piece group of enthusiasts of musical styles including Yiddish, North African, Klezmer and Gypsy traditions.

Food and drinks available at the show.

Tickets available at the door.
