Event Details
A programme of works for string orchestra together with solo ensembles drawn from the orchestra, featuring the world premiere performance of a violin concerto being written especially for this concert by young Australian composer Aaron Kenny. Aaron Kenny has already achieved wide acclaim for his concert and film music. His Elegy for Bees won him the 2MBS Young Composer of the Year Award in 2011. We are eagerly anticipating his latest work, which is being written especially for the Bourbaki Ensemble and soloist Alastair Duff-Forbes. The composer describes it as "a reflection of the tragedy of the events that took place at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant in 1986... using a mixture of rhythm, harmony and haunting melody to express innocence, atomic energy, and death."
