Event Details

The pure and uplifting voices of the highly acclaimed Sydney Children’s Choir undertake a program of timeless music by composers including Hildegard of Bingen, Paul Stanhope and Elena Kats-Chernin.

A highlight of Eternal Voices will be the world premiere of Dan Walker's Moments that Shaped Australia. Commissioned by the choir's Artistic Director Lyn Williams OAM, the work is written as a counterpart to the famous Bob Chilcott composition - Five Days that Changed the World - a major performance feature of this concert.

Chilcott’s music - with texts by Charles Bennett - tackles events in history that had a global unifying effect on the world - the invention of printing, abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, first man in space and the discovery of penicillin. Its Australian counterpart’s themes were chosen by the young choristers themselves and cover white settlement, native title, women’s suffrage, the Port Arthur massacre and the invention of Wi-Fi.

Eternal Voices follows on from last year’s sold-out Southern Lights, Northern Lights concert at the City Recital Hall.

Established by Williams in 1989, the Sydney Children’s Choir is celebrated for its precision, discipline and compelling performance style.
