Event Details

Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra present their final concert for 2009, celebrating the beauty, excitement and diversity of chamber orchestra music, performed by some of the finest young musicians from around Australia. Our most adventurous program yet, we'll be performing music spanning 350 years by four very distinct composers. The concert will open with Torelli's Violin Concerto performed and directed from the violin by Liz Gormley. Following will be the Allegro moderato from Mendelssohn's Octet in Eb. Composed at the tender age of 16, this work is filled with youthful high spirits and energy. Uniquely arranged for solo string quartet and chamber orchestra, Australian-born Stephen Yates's Down Tango'd is an old favourite of the Camerata and will be brought to life once again before the concert is concluded with Copland's Appalachian Spring. Under the baton of Luke Gilmour, the Camerata will be joined for this piece by Lina Andanovska (flute), Rowena Watts (clarinet), Tamasin Meller (bassoon) and Dan Carter (piano).

Featured non-Australian music: Appalachian Spring (Copland), Violin Concerto (Torelli), Octet in Eb (Mendelssohn)
