Event Details

Awake to the beauty of music with an afternoon concert of contrasts, Sunday Idylls, performed by the SSO Fellows for Wyvern Music Forestville on 23rd September at 4pm at OLGC Catholic Church Forestville, under the Artistic Directorship of Roger Benedict.

Imagine waking up on your birthday to the sound of 13 musicians serenading you from the staircase, playing music by the love of your life. This was Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, composed for his wife Cosima. Wagner’s operas are long, epic and larger than life, but the Idyll reveals an unexpected tenderness and intimacy. In the same vein is Reger’s Lyric Andante for strings, a “Love Dream” composed as a wedding anniversary present for friends. And everyone is a soloist in an effervescent arrangement of Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for four wind instruments (K297b).

This program will also include a new work by Melbourne-based composer Miriama Young. It has been commissioned for the SSO Fellows with the generous assistance of Dr Janet Merewether and is dedicated to the memory of her mother, Tempe Merewether OAM, Life Member and Patron of Wyvern Music Forestville.
