Awake to the beauty of music with this one-hour early evening concert of chamber music, performed by the SSO Fellows.
Imagine waking up on your birthday to the sound of 13 musicians serenading you from the staircase, playing music by the love of your life. This was Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, composed for his wife Cosima. Wagner’s operas are long, epic and larger than life, but the Idyll reveals an unexpected tenderness and intimacy. In the same vein is Reger’s Lyric Andante for strings, a “Love Dream” composed as a wedding anniversary present for friends. And everyone is a soloist in an effervescent arrangement of Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for four wind instruments (K297b).
This program will also include a new work by Melbourne-based composer Miriama Young. It has been commissioned for the SSO Fellows with the generous assistance of Dr Janet Merewether and is dedicated to the memory of her mother, Tempe Merewether OAM.
The SSO Fellows are young musicians, immersed in a year of mentoring and professional experience as they prepare for an orchestral career. This program of chamber music shows off their talents.
