Sandy Evans, one of Australia’s most well-known jazz saxophonists and composers, directs this musical interpretation of Gandhi’s writings on non-violence, joined by Australian-Indian musicians Sarangan Sriranganathan (sitar/vocals) and Bobby Singh (tabla), and her all-star band.

Sandy Evans has a long and storied career in jazz, having toured and recorded with some of the most important bands in Australian jazz since the 1980’s. She has been a member of Sandy Evans Trio, Clarion Fracture Zone, The Catholics, Australian Art Orchestra, and many more. Sandy has performed alongside Andrea Keller, Paul Grabowsky, and has received many commissions and awards for her work including the APRA Art Music Award for her epic international collaboration Bridge of Dreams which sold-out City Recital Hall at Sydney Festival in 2019.

Since the early 2000’s, Sandy has had a keen interest in Indian classical music, releasing several LP’s with collaborators like Bobby Singh, Guru Kaaraikkudi Manu and Sruthi Laya. She has received a PhD for her work delving into Indian music, and undertook a Churchill Fellowship visit to India to further her interest.

Bobby Singh is a disciple of the great maestro Aneesh Pradhan. Bobby has played with huge names throughout Indian music, and collaborated with Australian musicians for his drum and bass project The Bird, made classical music with Slava Grigoryan and blues and roots with John Butler.

Sarangan Sriranganathan is a sitarist and vocalist whose long career in music has seen him perform at venues like Queen Elizabeth Halls, Sydney Opera House, Woodford Folk Festival and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Additionally, drummer and percussionist Alon Ilsar will be playing his digital creation, the airsticks - an electronic drum kit that allows the player to literally drum in the air.
