An intimate evening of classical guitar t
The UQ Chamber Singers, directed by Graeme Morton, will join Benjamin Ellerby to perform Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Romancero Gitano, a seven-movement work that embodies the history and the landscape of the Andalucían region. Based on the texts of the famous Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, the piece draws from the strong and passionate emotions of its flamenco influences – in particular the cante jondo style.
The recital will also feature works by Joseph Twist and Robert Davidson, as well as Tarantism, a four-movement work for solo guitar by Brisbane based composer Connor D’Netto. Completed in 2016, Tarantism has been well received by many of Australia’s leading guitarists and this performance will be the first time that the piece has been performed in its entirety since the premiere in May.
Featured non-Australian music: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco: Romancero Gitano
