Event Details

The SUBSTATION presents a two-part video screening of works developed by the Australian Art Orchestra, between 2017-2019.

'HEAT'
Originally developed as part of the Australian Art Orchestra’s Solo Series, Peter Knight's solo work 'Heat' features trumpet processed through Revox reel-to-reel tape machine and laptop computer.

"Peter’s solo piece here is quietly gripping; hypnotic yet troubled by an insistent unease. … When he improvises, Peter sets up sound worlds, sets them in motion and sees what happens.” - Kate Hennessy

'DIOMIRA'
Sparked off by one of the imaginary lands in Italo Calvino's novella Invisible Cities, Diomira is an expedition forging a path between the observable and the unreal. Chamber jazz orchestra expands with the additions of turntables, reel-to-reel tape machines and live signal processing, while the sounds of acoustic instruments and voices are interwoven with vinyl-cut field recordings, toying with perceptions of what is head and what has only been imagined. This layered sound world is further augmented by multi-screen projections as time folds into itself, leaving the residue of moments half-remembered.
