Event Details
Featuring a broad program of artists, the Perth International Jazz Festival has something for everyone. Saxophone legend Joe Lovano (USA), headlines the festival along with talented and acclaimed Australian vocalists Katie Noonan and Vince Jones. There's the cutting edge sounds of Kneebody (USA), and one of the hottest guitarists on the New York scene today - Gilad Hekselman (Israel/USA), not to mention finely crafted gypsy jazz from UK guitar legend Hank Marvin. Then there's a bunch of Perth's favourite sons, now based overseas, who are dropping in to help celebrate - including bassist Sam Anning, saxophonists Troy Roberts and Brandon Allen as well as eclectic trio 'The Grid' (featuring Tim Jago, Dane Alderson and Ben Vanderwal), and fusion supergroup 'VOID'. Add to that a whole host of award-winning, highly acclaimed local artists such as Jamie Oehlers, Tom O'Halloran Trio, Mace Francis Orchestra, Johannes Luebbers Dectet, Russell Holmes Trio, Tal Cohen Quartet and Libby Hammer (to mention only a few) and you begin to get the full scope of what is on offer.
Bebop, brazillian, latin jazz, standards, not-so-standards, blues, greens, avant-garage, mainstream, contemporary, big-band, small-band, no-band... and everything in between. Whether you are a casual jazz listener, a hard-core connoisseur or completely new to the jazz artform - the Perth International Jazz Festival will not disappoint!
