Event Details
Strictly for adults only, this digital-only event is a musical exploration of sensuality, slowly over the course of the show transfiguring its sentiments to the erotic. Britten’s toe-tapping Cabaret Songs are imbued with an undercurrent of suggestion. Scriabin’s Towards the Flame ventures to less abstract territory – an incredible slow build of monstrous textural density. Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre is an intensively athletic showpiece, derived from his bizarre and deeply sexually-charged opera ‘Le Grand Macabre’.
A new work from Melbourne-based composer Luke Paulding for actor and piano explores connections and fractures between sexuality, intimacy and ritual. The work utilises visceral physicality and subverted mannerisms inspired by pornography, fetish culture and queer performance art. The show crashes to finale with Raineri’s arrangement of the famous Dance of the Seven Veils.
Performers: Alex Raineri (piano) + Matthew Connell (actor)
Featured non-Australian music: Strauss (arr. Raineri) 'Dance of the Seven Veils', Britten 'Cabaret Songs', Scriabin 'Vers la flamme', Ligeti 'Mysteries of the Macabre'
