Event Details

Kattrin's Drum is a musical work by Alan Lawrence written in response to a request from QSO principal percussionist David Montgomery and inspired by Wesley Enoch's QTC production of Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertold Brecht. It is a work for live percussion and quadraphonic sound, the latter entirely derived from real world sounds recorded by the composer. A dramatic dialogue takes place between the live performer and the four loudspeakers that surround audience and performer alike. The work is almost as much theatre as it is music; not 'theatre music' nor 'music theatre' but music as theatre.

The performance of Kattrin's Drum will be punctuated with an opportunity for the artists to contextualise the work and field questions from the audience, in the following format: Kattrin's Drum (world premiere performance); composer Alan Lawrence and percussionist David Montgomery in conversation - concerning the new work and the music/theatre relationship; Kattrin's Drum (second performance)
