Our final concert for this difficult year in 2020 explores different impressions through the expressions of five composers. For many this year living was in isolation so Ross Edwards Tower of Remoteness is a fitting piece to include as it expresses isolation so beautifully. This year I have spent a lot more time time walking in the Australian bush and comforted by listening to the music of our feathered friends. One of the most musical of songbirds in our bush is the pied butcherbird. Hollis Taylor has spent many hours recording these joyous birds and her delightful work Greens Park Georgetown features a virtuosic pied butcher bird with a bass clarinet part in musical dialogue. This year Charisma donated ticket sales to Bridge for Asylum so it is fitting that we pay homage to the plight of refugees and those who haven’t make it to a safe haven with Margery Smith’s poignant composition Humanity Washed Ashore. As a work of pure impressionism we will also perform Debussy’s Premiere Rhapsody for clarinet and piano and a work of beauty and neo-Romanticism Saint-Saens Sonata for clarinet and piano. For those who can make the concert we invite you to join us for a covid distanced drink and for those who can’t make it - we promise to get to editing the recordings from these concerts and upload them! Thank you to those who were able to come to our miniature house concerts this year we really appreciate your on going support and that 2021 brings a promise of hope.

Performers: Ros Dunlop, David Miller

Featured non-Australian music: Debussy Premiere Rhapsody / Saint Saens Sonata for Clarinet and Piano
