Messe De Notre Dame

+ Three New Australian Works (World Premieres)

Machaut's Messe de Notre Dame is one of the masterpieces of medieval music. Built on the pure, eternal radiance of perfect intervals, its glorious resonance reaches out to us undimmed across six and a half centuries.

To honour Machaut’s vision, Sydney Chamber Choir has also commissioned three young Australian composers to respond to this ancient splendour with their own brief musical tributes.

Carl Orff offers a different view of the Middle Ages with his choral tour-de-force Carmina Burana. Greed, gluttony, lust, longing and laughter are celebrated with music as bold as it is beautiful – and even more thrilling in Orff’s own mighty arrangement for pianos and percussion.

Featured non-Australian music: Orff, Machaut
