Event Details
Thum Prints is an innovative and experimental work that owes its success to the combined vision of artists whose belief is that music is universal. Transcending traditional ideas about genre, Hamilton and Tom Thum have accessed and interpreted musical ideas, crossing historical and geographical borders as the 'bowerbirds' of this new age.
Popular favourites by Gershwin and Bernstein – two of America’s most universally feted composers – promise dazzling orchestral colours and infectious Latin American rhythms. Continuing the South American theme, brilliant Argentinian pianist Sergio Tiempo joins the orchestra for the virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 1 by his compatriot Alberto Ginastera – which rolls out a startling musical diversity, from fluid mystery to bracing vigour, in its dramatic dialogues between piano and orchestra.
