Event Details
In the first of SSO’s Cocktail Hour concerts for 2018, SSO percussionist Timothy Constable takes the timeless sounds of Bach’s music for solo violin and transfers them to the mellow tones of the marimba. And his own creativity is on show in an instalment from his new Quintet: Rondo, Timelapse. Then it’s straight to the heartland of chamber music, with the first of Beethoven’s exhilarating Razumovsky string quartets. Long, intensely emotional and challenging to perform, they were greeted with a mix of suspicion and awe in 1802. Beethoven’s response? “They are not for you, but for a later age.” Two centuries later, we know he was right!
