Event Details

From symphonic greats to exciting contemporary music, there’s something for everyone at our free summer concert series supported by Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide. We look forward to welcoming a stellar lineup of guest artists to National Music Camp in 2020 – we’ll be joined by renowned conductors Matthew Coorey and Tze Law Chan, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Natsuko Yoshimoto, and didjeridu virtuoso William Barton.

These professionals will work with AYO musicians to present a diverse showcase of works across a series of seven concerts – with orchestral favourites such as Smetana’s 'The Moldau' and Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony performed alongside an array of contemporary works; including Jack Frerer’s 'On-Again, Off-Again', written in 2018 for the Juilliard Orchestra, and Peter Sculthorpe’s 'Earth Cry' for didjeridu and orchestra, featuring a solo appearance by William Barton.

What makes these concerts particularly exceptional is that they feature 220 of the country’s most talented young musicians, who have each completed a highly competitive audition process to gain their seat in the orchestra. The annual gathering of young performers, composers and arts administrators at National Music Camp is one of the highlights of the year for many young Australian musicians, and it’s inspiring to witness what can be achieved when these musical minds combine their enthralling energy and passion for music.
