Experience the magic of Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room as one of the country’s most vibrant young quartets perform works by Mahler, Wagner, Schumann and Skipworth with special guest violinist Anna Da Silva Chen.
Penned at the age of 16, Mahler’s Piano Quartet is a turbulent and passionate example of this symphonic master’s early musical persona.
Lachlan Skipworth's Piano Quartet reveals a delightful synthesis of Japanese tonal colours set in a uniquely Australian landscape. This exciting premiere displays the work of a brilliant Australian compositional talent, while re-imagining the piano quartet genre on an innovative and evolving contemporary canvas.
Love and death permeate this program, and are powerfully revealed in Wagner's Prelude & Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde. In a new arrangement by Bernard Rofe, the lush, soloistic qualities of the piano quartet allow Wagner's expressive vision to find new romance. Featuring the prodigious and award-winning Sydney violinist Anna Da Silva Chen (APQ emerging artist), Schumann’s joyful Piano Quintet will transport the audience to a romantic world of yearning, desire and rapture.
