'One word full of meaning...'
The title for thiswork, One Word Full of Meaning, comes from one of the textual
fragments that forms its basis: "A single word full of meaning, hearing which one becomes at
peace, is better than a thousand words which are empty of meaning" (Dhammapada no.
100). The texts chosen for the work are in Pali, the language of the Theravada Buddhist
cannon, and are used for daily chanting. The texts I have chosen convey some of the most
important ideas behind Buddhism: loving kindness (may all beings be well and happy),
impermanence, and reflections on the nature of the body (which is of the nature to age and
decay, sicken and die).
