Andrew Will : Associate Artist


Andrew Will was born on 28th March 1960, in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. He studied at the Royal Australian Naval School of Music, Victoria, 1976 and continued full–time as a serving musician with the Royal Australian Navy for six years. He studied music at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education, Toowoomba, 1984 and music education at Sydney College of Advanced Education, Sydney, 1988.

He plays many different types of musical instruments and has performed with the Royal Australian Naval Band (Sydney, Melbourne and Fleet Band, 1976–1982), Seventh Fleet Marine Band (Pearl Harbour, 1980), Indian Naval Band (Cochin, 1980), New Zealand Army Band (Singapore, 1980), Toowoomba Sinfonia, (1985–1986) and the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra (1986). He has also performed in numerous rock and jazz bands in the past 25 years. Andrew currently performs with the New Groove Big Band and jazz band Sojourn both located in Brisbane, Queensland and is the resident session trombonist/arranger with Troy Horse Recording Studio, Brisbane.

Andrew studied composition under the direction of the late Peter Rourke. As a music educator, he writes a variety of material suitable for the development of student bands. He has been involved with brass bands for the past 30 years and has written many titles for this type of ensemble. Andrew is the founder of Willscore Publishing, a business that publishes orchestral, concert and brass band material. Bands from Australia, United Kingdom, America, Norway, Belgium and Finland have performed Andrew's compositions ranging from Haunted House (Grade 1 level Concert Band), Frontier (Grade 3 Concert Band) and Convict (A Grade Brass Band).

His other main interest is arranging for community concerts, recording artists and for bands in which he is a current member.

Andrew currently holds the position of Music Director at St. Patrick's College, Brisbane and is committed to musical development of students both within the classroom and band setting. He has a commitment to Australian music making and embraces all genres and styles in the framework of his music curriculum.
