Josh Taylor : Associate Artist

Music should be for everyone; I try to experiment with different vibes as much as possible to help give people access points to what I'm doing. My only hope is that people can find momentary enrichment through this music.

Josh Taylor is a Melburnian musician whose practice spans performance, composition, musicology, and education, all with a strong pianistic focus. With an education initially rooted in classical performance, Josh expanded his practice to include composition during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. This endeavour led to the release of his first original EP, 'Musical Journal', in 2022, which was followed by 'Musical Journal 2', '3', and '4'. The title of 'Journal' reflects the self-documentation of his change and progress as a composer and a musician in the 21st century.

Josh's works have gained especial traction digitally, reaching over 45,000 listeners in 2023 (Spotify data). His compositions and recordings have been platformed by various tastemakers and playlists, both national and international. Interest in his works has often been attributed to an accessible sound, which is characterised by extended diatonic harmonies and rhythmic vitality, and influenced by the Classical canon, as well as jazz, minimalism, and contemporary film score. Additionally, Josh's works have been included in numerous international pedagogical syllabi, ranging from mid-level grades through to diploma-level repertoire.

Josh holds a Master of Arts in Music Performance from Monash University, as well as a Bachelor Honours in Music Performance from the University of Melbourne, both awarded with First Class Honours. During prior studies he also earned licentiate diplomas from the AMEB and Trinity College London. Josh is an Associate Artist with the Australian Music Centre, a Composer Member of APRA + AMCOS, and an accredited teacher with the Victorian Music Teachers' Association. He runs a private home studio in Melbourne where he helps foster the skills of younger musicians.
