Chris Perren is an Australian composer and video artist. He completed a PhD in music composition, supervised by Robert Davidson, at the University of Queensland. Chris is the founding member and principle composer of the indie chamber group, Nonsemble, and electronic music outfit Software of Seagulls. He has composed for Ensemble Offspring, Queensland Camerata, UQ Big Band, and various soloists and theatre companies.

Chris is known for his experimental audiovisual works, which have been presented at International Computer Music Conference, Montana State University, 2high Festival, and Sonic State Festival, and have earned him commissions from TEDxBrisbane and Ensemble Offspring, an Australia Council new work grant, and two MTAQ composer awards.

Chris's music spans contemporary chamber music, avant-pop, and experimental electronica, and has been released on Feral Media, New Weird Australia (Sydney), Sugarrush records, lofly records (Brisbane), Friend of Mine records (Tokyo), and Bigo & Twigetti (London). His theatre scores have accompanied over 20 productions in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hong Kong. He co-wrote the music to Dash Kruck's hit cabaret production I Might Take My Shirt Off, which earned a Matilda Award in 2015.

He has been an active organiser in the Australian music scene, helping to run the legendary warehouse venue 'hangar' from 2007-10, and its attached record label, lofly. Chris was also a founding member of the math-rock group Mr. Maps, and also spent time playing with indie rock bands Skinny Jean and aheadphonehome.

Chris teaches music technology and directs an iPad ensemble at the University of Queensland.
